Followers of the Hamilton Blake Consulting blog will know that we’re profiling a different member of the team every month in an informal Q&A article.

Our colleague in the spotlight this month is Connor Jones: Client Relationship Manager here at Hamilton Blake Consulting.

Keep reading to find out what it is that makes Connor tick…

Can you tell us a bit about your role: how do you fit into the company, and what does your day-to-day work look like?

As Client Relationship Manager, my role focuses on new client acquisition. I head up a team of two other sales and new business specialists. Together, we’re responsible for Hamilton Blake’s net new business. I joined the company full time back in August 2020, and the rest of the sales team started in January 2021.

Day-to-day, much of my time is spent on research. Our sales approach is very targeted, so we only want to approach prospects that could genuinely benefit from our services. We spend a lot of time looking up companies in our specialist industry segments, establishing what they do and whether they could benefit from R&D tax relief.

Once we have a list of prospects who we think could be eligible for R&D tax relief, we make contact via phone or on LinkedIn. Even if businesses are already claiming for their R&D, we try to speak with them as there’s a good chance we could offer them greater savings and a better service than their current R&D adviser.

What did you do before working at Hamilton Blake?

Before joining Hamilton Blake Consulting, I worked as a Commercial Development Manager at point-of-sale technology company, EPOS Now. I was looking for a change of scenery, so Simon (one of the company partners and a good friend of mine) invited me to join him at Hamilton Blake Consulting. I took the plunge and I haven’t looked back!

What is your favourite part of your role?

R&D tax relief is a nice service and it provides real value to our clients. Being able to ‘get behind’ the service makes my job much more rewarding, and much easier! It’s tough trying to sell something you don’t believe in, but that isn’t the case here at all.

How do you unwind after a long day at work?

After a long day of work, I like to unwind with a glass of red wine and by watching some sort of sport. Since we can’t do too much at the moment due to lockdown, I usually end up annoying my partner, Zoe.

What does your perfect weekend look like?

I am big fan of live sport, any sport, you cannot beat watching it live. Watching England play at Twickenham would take top spot closely followed by the cricket, football and MotoGP. I am yet to do an F1 weekend so that is definitely on the bucket list. I was lucky enough to get tickets to the Euros to watch England play a Wembly. Fingers crossed we get the chance to go this summer.

Thank you, Connor! Check back next month to read another Q&A with a member of the Hamilton Blake Consulting team.
