As part of our ‘Meet the Team’ series of blog posts, we’ve sat down with Matas Cibirka who joined us as a Tax Associate in November of last year.
Can you tell us a bit about your role: how do you fit into the company, and what does your day-to-day work look like?
I am part of the newly formed Engineering Team here at Hamilton Blake, where I work as Tax Associate in the Research & Development (R&D) department. My team and I specialise in dealing with a broad range of clients in the fields of engineering, software development and architecture.
My daily work consists of report writing, where I explore the R&D initiatives undertaken by our clients in the previous financial year(s). The reports I write accompany the tax relief claims that are submitted to HMRC, highlighting the advancements they have achieved in their respective industries.
I hope to progress in my role and take on more responsibility in the future here at Hamilton Blake.
What was working life like for you before working at Hamilton Blake?
After graduating from Sheffield Hallam University, where I studied (BA) Business Economics, I worked as Data Analyst for the company I completed my placement year at. I then decided to enter the world of financial services by joining Hamilton Blake and have not looked back since!
What’s the best bit of working at Hamilton Blake?
My favourite thing about working at Hamilton Blake is that each client we deal with is different. The projects they carry out are highly interesting, which adds to my enjoyment whilst I am at work.
Also, my colleagues are all lovely people – always a bonus!
What do you do to unwind on the weekends?
My weekends usually consist of seeing my friends over some food or drinks, training in the gym and martial arts, and unwinding through the means of reading or watching a movie.
If you could travel to anywhere in the world – where would you go and why?
I would love to visit Argentina for its beautiful landscapes, incredible wine, and world-renowned steak!
